The practice of dental hygiene in California is regulated by the Committee on Dental Auxiliaries (COMDA) and the Dental Board of California. Dental hygienists in California are required to take 25 hours of continuing education every two years for licensure renewal. Out of state hygienists interested in sitting for the dental hygiene licensure examination must complete the requirements established by COMDA. The examination schedule is available on the COMDA website. The Government Relations Council of the California Dental Hygienists' Association represents the interests of all registered dental hygienists in the state legislature.
