Licensure and Practice

The practice of dental hygiene in California is regulated by the Dental Hygiene Board of California. Out of state hygienists interested in sitting for the dental hygiene licensure examination must complete the requirements established by the DHBC.

CDHA Foundation

Our objective is to raise funds for dental hygiene student scholarships. DHAI plans to fund future scholarships for dental hygienists to advance their educational goals. DHAI also serves as a grant administrator for hygienists and components.

Message from our president 2019-20

Commitment to Community
11 years into my hygiene career I attended a continuing education course that changed my dental hygiene professional life forever.  The course was about treating Developmentally Delayed adults and children in my community with the use of a dental coordinator, primarily a registered dental hygienist.  The Dental Coordinator would advocate, collaborate and bring these special patients into the most appropriate dental setting through extensive case management. My career began as one of the first Dental Coordinators in the State of California, and my journey to focus on my community had begun.

From that beginning, I established a hospital based dentistry program, recruited dentists in the community to help with the burden of an overpopulated clinic system and help with the restorative needs of my patients.  I adopted those who had special needs and needed urgent care. I made a commitment to my dental hygiene community with that first outreach and coordination, and it has grown from there.

CDHA battled for the Registered Dental Hygienist in Alternative Practice Profession, and in turn gave me the opportunity to become an RDHAP and continue my passion for access to care.  As President of CDHA I hope to inspire other dental hygienists to step out of the box and make a commitment to themselves to do what they love and love what they do. Together we can reach and meet the oral health needs of those in our community.

Join me and CDHA as we advocate for access to care and make a Commitment to Community.
