This virtual 1.5 CE interactive course aims to equip oral healthcare providers and related professionals with the knowledge and skills to deliver culturally competent care while addressing and reducing implicit bias in patient interactions. Participants will explore the impact of cultural competence and implicit bias on patient-provider relationships, clinical outcomes, and health equity. Through a blend of lectures, case studies, and practical scenarios, this course offers actionable strategies to foster respectful communication, improve trust, and enhance care quality for patients from diverse backgrounds.
Course Objectives:
After this course, attendees will be able to:
- Define cultural competence and implicit bias, specifically in the context of oral healthcare.
- Recognize the impact of implicit bias on patient-provider interactions and clinical decision-making.
- Identify strategies to enhance cultural competence and reduce bias in clinical practice
- Apply communication techniques to improve trust, patient satisfaction, and treatment adherence among diverse patient populations.

Pamela J. Graboso-Saul, BSDH, MSDH, is a licensed dental hygienist, educator, and public health advocate with a passion for community-centered care and culturally competent practice. With licensure in NJ, NY, and PA, and over six years of clinical and research experience, Pam blends hands-on clinical insight with an academic and public health lens.

Currently pursuing her Master of Public Health with a focus in Oral Population Health, Pam’s work bridges oral health disparities, cultural competency, and real-world strategies for clinicians. She has served in school-based programs, grant-funded research projects, and has held leadership roles within the American Academy of Dental Hygiene and the New Jersey Dental Hygienists’ Association.
