Membership

After acceptance into dental hygiene school, Student membership in CDHA is the next most important step to becoming consummate dental hygiene professional.

CDHA represents the student voice in the dental hygiene profession. Membership is open to all students enrolled in entry-level.

Membership

Any student enrolled in a dental hygiene program is eligible for Student membership, if the school is accredited by a national agency recognized by the Council on Post-Secondary Accreditation or the US Department of Education. California currently has 27 accredited dental hygiene schools, five of which are Bachelor of Science programs.

Please note: Degree completion, grad students, or RDH studying to become an RDHAP do not qualify for student membership.

• Student members are invited to all student member activities and are encouraged to actively participate especially with the annual student meetings, to take part in the Student House of Representatives (SHOR) at CDHA’s annual House of Delegates meeting, as well as the opportunity to participate in the CDHA Poster Session
• Scholarship opportunities including CDHA’s Cora Ueland Scholarship and scholarships offered by local components
• Networking opportunities to meet other student members throughout the state
• Local component meetings to network with dental professionals and their activities

Fees

• Student member dues are $50 for the full term of your program, valid until your graduation date (limit two years)
• Second Year Student member dues are $25 and are open to students in their second year of a dental hygiene program

CDHA Student Leadership

Faculty/Student Member Advisors

Each school selects a faculty and a student representative to serve as a liaison for CDHA. Resources for student leaders and faculty are available from CDHA. For more information please contact Student Relations Council at src@cdha.org.

Student Leadership Awards

Faculty are invited to submit nominations for the CDHA Student Leadership Awards to recognize outstanding graduating dental hygiene students.

Nomination Process

• Faculty are responsible for completing the Student Leadership Award nomination form on behalf of the student.
• Completed nomination forms must be emailed to Member Services at memberservices@cdha.org.
• Students should not submit their own nominations.

Eligibility Criteria

• The student is a graduating senior dental hygiene student enrolled in a California Dental Hygiene Program.
• The student has made exceptional contributions to the Association in more than one area, whether at the local, state, or national level.
• The final award recipient is selected through a confidential vote of the senior dental hygiene students. Ballots are counted by the Junior Student Membership Representative and the Student Membership Faculty Advisor.

Award Recognition
CDHA will email the certificate directly to the faculty, not to the student. Faculty are responsible for printing and presenting the certificate to the recipient as appropriate.
